Mondas Lavon Hocfbaum, 95, of New Carlisle, Ohio, passed peacefully Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Piqua Manor. She was born in Sabina on July 29, 1925, daughter of N. Gordon and Vera Smith Dun, both deceased.
Mondas graduated from Sabina High School in 1943, and from the White Cross Hospital School of Nursing, in Columbus, in 1946. She worked as a nurse at the VA Hospital in Dayton and, for twenty years, as Head Nurse of the Urology Department at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, where she happily retired in 1989.
Mondas had a love of family that was beyond measure. Sunday Nascar days with family and great food was a joy of hers. She loved to travel, shop, read, crochet and always had a crossword puzzle or coloring book close by. Mondas had a passion for cooking and enjoyed reading cook books. She loved to have "debates and discussions" with anyone that would listen.
Mondas is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Klepper, and a son, Richard Hocfbaum (Vonda Norris). Also left to cherish her memory is a nephew, Trevor Shoemaker (Cindy Moyer); son in law Gregory Riber; daughter in-laws, Crystal Hocfbaum and Vickie Castor; her grandchildren: Jennifer (Aaron) Slusser, Elizabeth Vanderhorst, Ashley (Michael) Elkins, Dennis Klepper, Maggie (Aaron) Funk, Tara Klepper, Lindsey Hocfbaum, Erica Laughlin, Johny (Chelsea) Conner and Dustin Conner. She was blessed to have 11 great grandchildren, along with the many friends she made over the years.
Mondas was preceded in death by her sister Joy (Floyd) Shoemaker, a daughter Janice Riber, a son Jeffrey Hocfbaum.
Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 12:30pm at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington. Friends may call at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, from 11-12 Noon. Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina has been entrusted with arrangements.
