Mike Mason, age 81, of Liberty Township, passed away on June 6, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born August 17, 1942, in Xenia, he was the son of Eugene and Betty Mae Spear Mason (John) Hook.
Mike is survived by his wife Catherine Jean, whom he married June 10, 1962.
He had farmed with his wife for 62 years and had a very successful excavation business. Mike was an author, having wrote the book “The Grasshopper”, of which he was very proud. In addition to being a lifelong farmer, he was a fire fighter, was the fire chief of Port William and had taught firefighting classes. Mike also raced with USAC, was a tractor puller with NTPA and had the first Hypermax tractor.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by their grandson, Michael Ellis, his wife Ashley Ellis and greatgrandchildren: Meredith and Nathan Ellis. Mike is also survived by special friends: D.J. Epperson and Mel Dallas.
Mike was preceded by a daughter, Michele, and her son.
Visitation will be on Monday June 10, 2024, at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. with burial to follow at New Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William.
