Mark S. Garen

Mark S. Garen, age 71, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday July 9, 2024, at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

Born January 22, 1953, in Wilmington, the son of the late Leroy Garen and Florence Purcell (Donald) Pummill.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cindy Garen.

A graduate of White Oak High School, Mark retired from the US Postal Service, serving in New Vienna as Postmaster for 42 years. After retirement he went on to work for Wilmington Transit for several years. Currently serving as a board member of Great Oaks, Mark was a former Board Member of East Clinton Local Schools for over 20 years. Mark had served as a basketball and volleyball official. He enjoyed auctions, vacationing in Florida for the winters and Tennessee in the summers. He always had a booth at the Corn Festival. Always the basketball fan, Mark insisted on being at home for March Madness, where he could watch the games in comfort and a large screen. Above all, he loved his family and looked forward to all the family dinners and the holidays. He tried to never miss any of his kid's and grandkid's sporting events or showing animals at the fair. He would always say when leaving, “Come back and see us.”

In addition to his wife, Mark is also survived by their children: Steve (Caryl) Garen of Clarksville, Travis (Erika) Garen of New Vienna, and Kevin (Hannah) Garen of New Vienna. Also left to cherish his memory are 6 grandchildren: Tanner, Alexia, Trenton, Peyton, Jevin and Ellie; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Connie Adams; special and dear friends, Steve and Amy Spinks; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 15, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina. Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery, Lees Creek.

Memorial contributions would be welcomed to the East Clinton Athletic Department.
