Larry D. Fair, 90, of Sabina, passed away at his home on Saturday afternoon, November 18, 2023.
Born April 2, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Earl Ezra and Anna Louise (Carlisle Sanders) Fair.
Larry is survived by his wife, Bertha Magrace (Fisher) Fair, whom he married on June 30, 1956.
An Arcanum High School graduate, he joined the Army at the written request of his "friends and neighbors" and served as a corporal during the Korean Conflict. In 2015, he was excited to be part of the Honor Flight from Dayton, an experience that touched him deeply. Larry worked at NCR in Dayton and Washington Court House and at Modern Sales and Construction in Wilmington. He took classes thanks to the GI Bill and learned the construction trade. He retired as a construction supervisor from the Jay Car Construction Company of Mt. Sterling and often took pride in pointing out what buildings he had had a hand in constructing.
Larry was first and foremost a family man. Family get-togethers, holidays, and game nights were things he looked forward to. He loved all kinds of board games, word games, and puzzles and would check Facebook daily to see what was going on with family and friends. His love for his canine companions was well documented in his Facebook posts. He enjoyed wintering with his wife in Florida. He would go on fishing excursions to bring back fish for the annual family fish fry. He also enjoyed visiting with his cousin, Barb, while there.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his children: Robert "Rob" Fair (DeLynn) of Columbus {Andi, Allie, Benjamin}; Kathy (Tim) Landwehr of West Alexandria {Chris, Bethany Magrace, Matt}; daughter-in-law Marilyn Fair of Sabina {Travis}; Russell "Russ" (Joni) Fair of Wilmington {Seth, Kelly, Megan, Erin}; Janet (Rick) Bass of Port St. Lucie, FL {Mike}; Randall "Randy" (Lanna) Fair of Sabina {Breana, Brooke, Ariona, Astasia, Alexous, Araura}; Karla (Chris) Herrmann of Washington C.H. {Jim, Dr.Jeremy}; Joell (Steven) Guerrero {Tasha, Taylor, Steven Jr., Samantha, Nicholas, Joey}; Roderick "Rod" Fair of Kettering; and former daughter-in-law Laurie Anderson Fair. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, many friends, and his beloved dogs, Trixie and Bambi.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Rick Fair (2015), and by his sister, Juanita Besecker, and twin brother, Jerry Fair.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Sabina United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. with an Honor Guard at 5:00. Fellowship in the church basement with light food and conversation will follow. There will be no viewing per Larry's request.
