Judy (Hawk) Stewart

Judy Stewart December 9, 1941 -  September 2, 2020

Judy Stewart passed peacefully on September 2, 2020, surrounded by her family and listening to “It’s My Party” under a beautiful full Corn Moon.

Judy was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Stewart, and her mother and father, Dorothy and Ray Hawk.

Judy is survived by her second husband, Charles Von Bergen, and her children: Steve Stewart (Michelle), Jill Rorschach (Donny) and Jennifer Moore Sweet (Matt); grandchildren: Madison Rorschach (Hope), Tyler Sweet, Christopher and Caitlynn Moore, Trevor Stewart and McKinley Rorschach; step-children: Eric Von Bergen (Robin) and Paige Tinker (Matt); step-grandchildren: Noah and Ellie Tinker; her sisters: Janet Channel (Bob) and Kathy Linkhart (Greg); brother, Jeff Hawk (Barb); and several cherished nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

Judy was born in Washington Court House, Ohio and grew up down the road in Sabina. She graduated from Simon Kenton High School, class of 1959, where she was Homecoming Queen.  She worked at Sabina Bank before she and her first husband, Dale, moved first to Nashville, Tennessee, and then Logansport, Indiana.  In 1975, Mac Tools moved the family to their second hometown, Arlington, Texas where they made great memories with many beloved friends and neighbors.  Judy worked as a travel agent at Omega Travel and traveled extensively to destinations all over the world, including England, Australia and New Zealand, Egypt and Mexico.  In 1989, Judy and Dale moved back to Sabina.  Judy worked at Bush Auto Place in sales and as a fleet coordinator until her retirement.  She continued to support the dealership by chasing Chuck for fleet deliveries. General Motors was in her blood and she loved every aspect of the business.

After Dale’s death in 2004, Judy spent time in Arlington, again, caring for her new grandbaby.   Judy was an incredibly strong woman and survived breast cancer in 2005, while working through her grief.  Judy enjoyed traveling to see Steve and his family and touring the California Wine Country.  In 2006, Judy reconnected with an old friend, Chuck Von Bergen and the two became inseparable. In December of 2012, during the family holiday party, Judy and Chuck secretly planned a surprise wedding ceremony so they could include the whole family.  The wedding was officiated by Mayor of Wilmington.  Judy and Chuck enjoyed traveling to see members of their blended family in California, Texas and the Carolinas and wintering in Florida.  Playing cards was one of Judy’s favorite pastimes, she and Chuck spent many Friday nights playing Euchre with friends at the Elks.  For over ten years, Judy and her little sister. Kathy played weekly Euchre games against the guys, Chuck and Greg, averaging close to 1000 games per year.  Judy was an avid gardener and loved planting her flowers from the potting party at Moore’s Greenhouse every spring.  Judy loved her grandchildren most of all and covered almost every wall and shelf in her home with their meticulously framed pictures.  She will be deeply missed by the many family and friends whose lives she brightened.

In light of current circumstances, the family is foregoing a traditional memorial service and will host an open house celebration of Judy’s life on Sunday, September 6, 2020, from 1:00 to 5:00pm, at Judy and Chuck’s home at 863 Snow Hill Road, Sabina, Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Judy be remembered through a contribution to either the  Breast Cancer Research Foundation or Hospice of Central Ohio (https://www.hospiceofcentralohio.org/donate/) , in Columbus, where she was when she lost her long battle with COPD and asthma.
