Sabina

Joyce Arrasmith, age 73, of Sabina passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Joy was born on September 11, 1949, to the late Roy & Doris Jean (Vineyard) Arrasmith of Sabina.

Joy was a graduate of East Clinton High School and went on to start her teaching degree at Cincinnati Bible College and finished at Wilmington College where she graduated in 1973. She began her teaching career at Blanchester where she remained the entire 30 years. She also completed her master's degree at Wright State University.

Joy loved to play sports all of her life and was destined to be a coach and a teacher. Her passion for others and sports drove her to be an advocate for women’s sports when she saw that the opportunities were lacking. Her senior year of high school she started a summer youth sports program for girls and remained in charge of it until 1971. Upon arriving at Blanchester for her teaching career, she organized a summer softball program for girls at Veterans Park in addition to coaching 53 High School and Junior High teams at Blan in Volleyball, Basketball, Softball and Track during 43 seasons. Sometimes having more than one team to coach during the season! She experienced numerous wins and accomplishments during her coaching career and she herself played softball up until she was 38. She was inducted into the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

After retiring in 2003 she pursued her other passion of photography and became a self-taught skilled photographer of birds and the eagles she loved to capture and follow all over Ohio. At the time of her death, she had captured photographs of 272 different birds and had a list of others she was pursuing to find.

Surviving are her sister, Diane (Bill) Anders of Sabina, nephew, Donnie (Janet) Gaddis of New Vienna, niece, Lisa (Mark) Cutler of Greenfield, great niece and nephews: Jordan Hardy, Samantha Gaddis, Tristan Pennington, Justin Cutler, Bradyn Gaddis & Zachary Borton; and one great great niece, Harrisyn Pennington.

Auntie Joy as all of her nieces and and nephews called her or Ms. A as she was fondly known and loved by all of the students she taught or coached will deeply miss her but her passion for coaching sports and her love for photography and birds will live on forever in loving memory of the “Joy” she brought to many lives.

In addition to her parents, Joy was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Janice Gaddis, in 2013; and her nephew, Jason Borton, in 2022.

Please celebrate with the family the life of Joyce Arrasmith at Sabina Church of Christ, where she was baptized and was a lifelong member, on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 11am-1pm. A graveside service and burial will follow at Sabina Cemetery, with a family and friend dinner afterwards back at the Sabina Church of Christ.

The family plans to give gifts to both East Clinton & Blanchester Junior High School girls athletic departments along with Sabina Church of Christ Youth sports programs in her honor. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, they are requesting that monetary blessings be left in care of Littleton Funeral Home of Sabina, and they will be added to the blessings split between these organizations in her loving memory.
