John B. Trivett

John Boyd Trivett of Wilimington, Ohio, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, died peacefully in his sleep and surrounded by loved ones in the early hours of Wednesday morning.  He was 80 years old.

Born in Harveysburg, Ohio to Amos G. and Martha Margaret Ashley Trivett on June 23rd, 1940, John was raised in Port William, Ohio and lived nearly his entire life in Clinton County.

He was an active member of Dover Friends' Meeting. John was well known to many people, and, as his daughter Teri says, "He didn't know a stranger."  When meeting many of his friends, the one thing that you could always count on hearing was, "He is the kindest person I've ever met." In fact, because of his self-deprecating humor, the only person who ever had a bad thing to say about John was himself.

John was a graduate of Port William High School, and a member of the 1958 Clinton County Championship basketball team.

John worked as a machinist for most of his life, starting at Clinton Tool (later Mac Tool) in Sabina before ultimately retiring from Elano, near Dayton, Ohio after working there for 27 years.
Friends and Family (and golf and pool!) were the most important things in life for John.  John would do just about anything that anyone wanted to do, especially for his children and grandchildren.  As a lifelong athlete, John was the active man who played catch, threw frisbees, kicked soccer balls, and more, all the way into his later years.  In fact, at 66 years old, he fell and broke a rib while playing football in the snow with his granddaughter Ashley! He inspired and cultivated personal growth in his children and grandchildren through these activities, teaching pool and golf, and making sure that they were able to do things like play junior golf and be in father/son bowling leagues.  He loved to watch his grandchildren play, and he was very proud.  He was and is the very definition of a role model.

John was always working on a project, and he would tinker around with it until it was just right. Usually, his projects were for others, and he made and repaired so many things for so many people, including cabinets, billiard lights, pinewood derby cars, and more.

John loved sports.  He was a member of the Elks in Wilmington for 41 years, but enjoyed golfing wherever and whenever he could, as long as it was with his friends or family.  He also held "Pool Night" in his garage every Thursday night for well over 30 years with his many, many friends.

John also loved to travel, especially with his wife, Sharon.  Together they visited places as far away as Kenya, the UK, Hawaii, Mexico, and more, often taking the children or grandchildren. But, even sitting on the couch in the living room was a blast with John, and there were many times shared watching movies and TV shows and laughing until he couldn't breathe. Always smiling, laughing, and joking, his personality was infectious. He will be missed so, so much.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon Trivett (née Gray), daughter Teri Tamplin (Tim), grandchildren Scott Trivett (Tiffany), Eric Batten (Jessie), Jessica Torres, Katie Williams (Shon), Ashley Batten, seven great-grandchildren, and three brothers, Daniel Trivett, Mark Trivett and James Cullinan.  He was preceded in death by his son John S. Trivett and his parents, Amos G. and Martha Margaret Ashley Trivett.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 26th at Dover Friends' Meeting, 257 Dover Road, Wilmington, Ohio. Visitation will be from 2:00pm-3:00pm, when the service begins. There will be light refreshments and fellowship afterwards.
