Joan (Bean) Brandenburg

August 4, 1930 — April 1, 2021

Wilmington

Joan Bean Brandenburg had her homecoming Thursday, April 1, 2021.

She was born in Xenia, Ohio, on August 4, 1930.  Joan was the third of six children to Lee and Josephine (Tucker) Bean, both deceased.

She attended, and graduated from, Wayne Township High School in 1948.  She married Roy Brandenburg, Jr. on August 15, 1948.  They were married for 59 years before Roy passed in 2007.  Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, and three of her siblings – Ruthanna Gray, William (Bill) Bean, and Shirley Louderback.

Those family members left to honor Joan are siblings: Robert (Bob) Bean of Sabina, OH, and Mary Jane Bentley of Lees Creek, OH; children: Vicky (Gary) Bishop of Wilmington, OH, Steve (Judy) Brandenburg of Westerville, OH, and Lori (Mark) Rittenhouse of Reno, NV; five grandchildren: Marc (Mary) Bishop of Clarksville, TN; Beth (Ian) Hackmann of Sabina, OH; Craig Brandenburg of Houston, TX; Lesley (Ryan) Sittler of New Albany, OH; and Matthew Rittenhouse of Reno, NV.  Joan was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Elyon and Eoin Hackmann; and, Harlow and Rowan Sittler.

Joan worked at the Lees Creek Store in Lees Creek, OH; the Court House in Wilmington, OH; and, for many years at National Bank & Trust in Wilmington, OH.  She enjoyed volunteering her time at Sabina Elementary in Sabina, OH; Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, OH; serving on the board for Nike Center in Wilmington, OH; and the Walk to Emmaus in Wilmington, OH.

Joan was very loving, giving, and always ready to help others.  She had a very strong faith and was active in her church.  She also enjoyed playing games – especially to win.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Staley; Nurse Practitioner Katie Moore; nurse Janet (JB) Brown; and all of the staff that spent time with “our mom” from Crossroads Hospice, especially her nurse Allison, and from Council on Aging.  We also want to thank our cousin, Lisa Bentley, for the special care she gave our mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PD Next Steps scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to people with Parkinson’s disease who cannot afford to pay for the workout program critical to their quality of life.  Donations can be sent to: PD Next Steps Scholarship Fund (4140 Tuller Road, Suite 110, Dublin, OH 43017)
