James M. Thompson

July 5, 1965 — September 21, 2021

South Salem

James M. Thompson, age 56, of South Salem, passed unexpectedly, at home, on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

Born on July 5, 1965, in Wilmington, he was the son of the late James R. and Margery ‘Marty’ Potts Thompson.

Jimmy married Bonnie McKibben on December 10, 1988.  The two were happily united for nearly 33 years.  Four days after his passing, Bonnie met Jimmy in Heaven.

A Wilmington High School graduate, Jimmy worked in transportation and maintenance at Airborne.  He previously worked for Irwin and DHL in Wilmington.  Jimmy loved fishing, watching westerns and football, tinkering around the house and garage, and working through Bonnie’s “honey-do” lists.

Jimmy is survived by sons: Cody James, and his wife Kayla, Thompson, Cory Michael Thompson, and Noah Christopher Thompson and his most cherished grandson, Remington.  Also left to cherish his memory is his long-time friend, who was like a mother, Betty Stewart; brother in-law Ralph, and his wife Debbie, McKibben; along with other extended family members, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Hertzler, and nephew, Denton James McDaniel Hertzler.

Due to the unforeseen passing of both James and Bonnie, memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are welcome to Littleton Funeral Home to aid in final expenses.

A graveside service, for both James and Bonnie, will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 1, 2021 at South Salem Cemetery.  Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, has been entrusted with arrangements.
