Lifelong Clinton County resident Gene DeVoe, 100, died on Sunday, January 22, 2023, after a brief stay at Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, with members of his family at his side. Born in Clinton County on December 20, 1922, Gene was the son of the late Charles and Beatrice Bone DeVoe. Gene was a 1941 Port William High School graduate, where he starred on the basketball team. Having grown up and worked on his family farm, he had farming in his blood. He actively farmed in Clinton County for over 50 years, primarily in the Lees Creek area. He was an Ohio Century Farm recipient. On February 12, 1944, Gene married Mary Elizabeth Page. Mary preceded Gene in death on February 22, 2013. They shared over 69 wonderful years of marriage. He loved teasing his beloved Mary endlessly. In his later years Gene enjoyed playing ping pong and spending winters in Ft. Pierce, FL, where he enjoyed fishing. He and Mary also loved traveling - especially to California and Las Vegas. Gene was very proud of his daughters and their accomplishments. He especially loved watching them participate in 4-H and teaching them to ride horses. He also closely followed Ohio State football and basketball, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He could always tell you when the next game was and what the scores were. Gene was loved and respected and will be deeply missed. He is survived by children, Janice (Chuck) McKeever of Pickerington, OH and Barbara O’Connell (Michael) of Long Beach, CA. Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Kellee (Michael)Kassabri and Scott (Juli) McKeever; great- grandchildren; Logan, Bryce, Kam and Alyssa. Sister, Joan (Cy) Stephens; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Williams; and brothers, Robert, Carl, and Fred DeVoe. A graveside service will be held on Thursday January 26, 2023 at 12:30 P.M. at the Centerville Cemetery, Lees Creek.
