Gale E. Holmes, age 82, of Wilmington, passed at Cape May, after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease, on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Born in Harveysburg on July 27, 1941, he was the son of Raymond W. and Donnabelle Anders Holmes Damron.
Gale is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Connie Humphrey Holmes.
Gale was a Martinsville High School graduate. He worked for 18 years at the Ohio Department of Transportation and retired from Airborne after 15 years. Gale loved to tinker in his barn and had an affinity for antique tractors. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Gale is survived by their sons: Andy (Martha) Holmes and Marty (Amy) Holmes, all of Wilmington. Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren: LeeAnn (Collin) Adams, Tiffany (Jason) Mary, and Morgan (fiancé Cole Holzheimer) Holmes; great-grandchildren: Shiloh Adams, Cady Massie, and Joey and Lucy Mary; great-great grandson Phillip Massie; siblings: Kathy (Richard) McKinley of Howard, OH, Vincent (Rita) and Rocky (LuAnn) Holmes, both of Wilmington, and Susan (Jim) Mattson of Hilton Head, SC; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gale was preceded in death by his first grandchild and his brother and sister in-law, Raymond and Betty Holmes.
Friends may call at the Wilmington Church of Christ on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 9:30am – 11:30am, when a funeral service will begin. Burial to follow at New Antioch Cemetery. Littleton Funeral
