Estel 'Ace' Spurlock

Estel ‘Ace’ Spurlock, age 87, of Wilmington, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Born in Sabina on January 23, 1936, he was the oldest of the thirteen children of Howard ‘Happy’ and Alice Scowden Spurlock.

He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife, Patricia Roberds Spurlock.  The two were united in marriage on September 3, 1955, and recently celebrated their 68th anniversary.

A 1954 Sabina High School graduate, Ace worked, for many years, at MAC Tool in Sabina.  He later retired from Clinton County Community Action.  Never one to quit moving, Ace kept a part-time mowing job with CCCA into his retirement.

He was an avid lover of country music and played drums in a country band for several years.  Ace served as Governor of the Sabina Moose for a few years and loved collecting guns.  Together, with his wife Patty, they babysat several children in their home.  Ace enjoyed his “bonus” grandchildren and could often be found keeping them busy outside.

In addition to his wife, Ace is survived by their children: Rae Lynn (Jim) Howard of Latham, Neal Spurlock of Nashville, Wade (Lorrie Smith) Spurlock of Wilmington, and Lance (Kim) Spurlock of Sabina.  Also left to cherish his memory are 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marcie Spurlock and Roxie (Sonny Morgan) Woods; brothers: Roger (Connie), Larry (Kathy), and Terry (Kim) Spurlock; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Ace was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Ann Warnock; granddaughter, Anisa Brooke Warnock; great-grandson, Landon Spurlock; and siblings: Janet Smith, Guy, Wayne, John, Paul, Dale, and Jim Spurlock.

Family will receive friends at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10am – 12pm, when a funeral service will begin.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
